Wine to Water Nepal Organizes 10KM Run to Support Menstrual Hygiene Education
With the aim of raising awareness on menstrual hygiene and health management, the ‘WWN Road Run 2026: 10KM for 1,000 Women’ was successfully held in Lalitpur on Saturday.
Organized by Wine to Water Nepal, the 10-kilometer run began at 6:45 AM from Patan Durbar Square and brought together hundreds of enthusiastic participants from various sectors.
The initiative is designed to support women from rural and underprivileged communities. According to the organizers, funds raised through the event will directly benefit 1,000 women across 16 communities where Wine to Water Nepal operates. These women will receive menstrual hygiene awareness sessions along with sanitary pad distribution.
Held on the eve of Menstrual Hygiene and Health Day 2026, the event highlighted the connection between sports and social responsibility. Participants competed in six different categories based on age and ability: under 16, 16–35, 35–50, above 50, professional runners, and persons with disabilities.
A key highlight of this year’s event was its symbolic message linking “running and menstruation,” drawing parallels between the endurance required in running and the physical and emotional challenges experienced during menstruation. The initiative aimed to promote empathy, awareness, and open dialogue on menstrual health.
At the closing ceremony, Wine to Water Nepal National Director Neejan Shrestha expressed gratitude to the District Administration Office Lalitpur, Lalitpur Metropolitan City, traffic police, media, volunteers, and partner organizations. He stated that even a small effort can bring significant improvements in the health and dignity of women across 16 communities.
Working in Nepal since 2016, Wine to Water Nepal has been actively engaged in improving safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene conditions in rural communities. The organization confirmed that all proceeds from the run will be used for menstrual health and education programs for women.
