Who gained the most and lost the most in the year 2070?

The year 2070 was a great one for most of the listed companies. But the insurance, hydropower and microfinance companies fared better than the rest.
If we look at the overall top five gainers for the year (table 1) we see a couple of MFIs leading the chart followed by insurance and hydropower companies.
Hotel group, too, posted a sturdy growth last year with Oriental topping the list of the hotels.
Most of the companies included in extended list of the top gainers are from the microfinance and insurance groups, with only one hotel (Oriental) and one hydropower (Sanima Mai) in the list.
It is interesting to note that despite the fact that insurance companies, especially the life insurers, continued to provide huge dividends, the investors were most interested in microfinance institutions.
On the other hand, none of the commercial banks, which dominate the market, appear nowhere in the top gainer’s list.
Another striking thing about the top gainer’s list is that the top five companies are those which got listed only in 2070 following the IPO.

As Table 2 clearly shows most of the biggest losers in 2070 were BFIs, mostly finance companies. Though one insurance company (NB Insurance) is in the list, but it more of an exception since it is due to its own internal problems such poor corporate governance. Though the commercial banks did not witness exponential growth in 2070, it did not end up among the top losers. Though Bank of Kathmandu is within the top five losers, it has very little to do with its core business. BoK simply fell prey to performance guarantee scam of Melamchi Drinking Water Project.
