Tokha Municipality Warns 39 Businesses, Fines Six During Market Inspection
The Tokha Municipality has taken action against 46 businesses during a market monitoring campaign aimed at strengthening consumer protection and improving market standards.
According to the Municipality, surprise inspections were conducted in different areas across 11 wards beginning May 8. The monitoring drive was carried out jointly by representatives from the Municipality, Metropolitan Police Force, Central Veterinary Disease Investigation Laboratory, Veterinary Standards and Drug Regulatory Laboratory, Livestock Service Office, Tokha Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Consumer Rights Protection Forum.
Chief Administrative Officer Kamal Bhattarai said that many businesses were found operating without proper registration and renewal of permits. During the inspection, authorities discovered various violations, including the absence of price tags, the sale of expired goods, poor sanitation in meat shops and non-compliance with basic operational standards.
The Municipality stated that warning notices were issued to 39 businesses, including fish and meat shops, dairy outlets, veterinary medicine stores, handicraft shops and grocery stores. Likewise, six businesses were fined amounts ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 50,000, while one shop was shut down for failing to comply with the Tokha Municipality Market Monitoring Directives-2075 BS.
