Three Candidates Shortlisted for Vacant Post of SEBON Chairman

Three names have been recommended for the post of Chairman of Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON).

In the order of preference, the committee has recommended Ramesh Hamal, Dr. Gopal Bhatta, and Krishna Pokharel.

Previously, five people had been shortlisted in the first round of selection for the post. A meeting of the recommendation committee had selected the best five out of 15 applicants. This recommendation committee was formed for the appointment of the board chairman by a ministerial decision. Niraj Giri, Gopal Prasad Bhatta, Khagendra Katuwal, Ramesh Kumar Hamal, and Krishna Raj Pokhrel were among the top five. The recommendation committee then recommended the names of 3 out of the 5 selected. The government will appoint one of them as the chairman of the board.

Mukti Aryal, Ramesh Ghimire, Chiranjibi Chapagain, Nawaraj Adhikari, Ambika Sharma Lamichhane, Jeevan Amgai, Sitaram Thapaliya, Keshav Prasad Shrestha, Anil Raj Poudel, and Hemanta Bashyal along with the five previously mentioned had applied for the post.

SEBON has been operating without an official chairman ever since Bhisma Raj Dhungana was sacked by the Ministry of Finance for illicit obtaining of shares and acting under influence of power centers.

This was the list of expected qualifications/ experience in the vacancy announcement:

1) The candidate should be a Nepalese citizen.
2) The candidate should possess a high moral character.
3) At least 7 years of working experience in securities market operations, capital market development, with financial, economic, or legal experience.
4) Not considered ineligible by Securities Act, 2063.
5) The candidate should be in the 30 - 60 age range.
