Security Heightened at Border Polling Stations Ahead of HoR Election
Authorities have intensified security monitoring at polling stations located along the Nepal–India border in Sunsari district in preparation for the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) election scheduled for March 5.
Security agencies from Koshi Province and Sunsari District began a coordinated inspection and surveillance operation on Wednesday to ensure that the election is conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner.
According to Chief District Officer Basudev Ghimire, representatives from the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and National Investigation Department have been mobilized across the district to oversee election preparedness and strengthen security arrangements.
The joint teams are assessing polling locations, identifying vulnerabilities, and ensuring that necessary preventive measures are in place ahead of voting day.
Monitoring and inspection activities were carried out at polling stations in Barju Rural Municipality, Dewanganj Rural Municipality, Harinagar Rural Municipality, and Koshi Rural Municipality—areas situated close to the international border and considered sensitive from a security standpoint.
Chief District Officer Ghimire said the inspections were aimed at collecting detailed information on the physical condition of polling centres, identifying potentially sensitive zones, designing effective crowd management strategies, and preparing contingency plans for emergencies.
Security officials have pledged to remain on high alert throughout the election period, maintaining surveillance and rapid-response readiness to deter any unlawful activities or cross-border interference.
Authorities stated that the proactive monitoring is intended to build voter confidence, maintain law and order, and ensure that the electoral process proceeds smoothly, securely, and without disruption.
