The Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) has officially published the capital market reform report prepared under the leadership of former Deputy Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, Mr. Chintamani Shiwakoti.
This study, commissioned by the Government of Nepal and approved during the Cabinet meeting held on 5th Poush 2081, explores the feasibility of allowing multiple organized entities to operate stock exchanges in the country.
Although the government had already decided to implement the report and assigned SEBON the responsibility through the Ministry of Finance, the report had not been made public until now. SEBON released the full report on Tuesday.
The Shiwakoti Committee has recommended a structural reform of the existing Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) and the introduction of new stock exchanges through a licensing process. It further outlines several legal and policy-level suggestions for the government to facilitate the entry of additional stock exchange operators in Nepal's capital market.
