Samling Power Company Ltd. Reports Major Damage to Mai Beni Hydropower Project Due to Landslides and Floods

Samling Power Company Ltd. has informed that, as per prior warnings issued by the Government of Nepal and relevant authorities, continuous rainfall has been recorded across various regions of the country, including Ilam district and surrounding areas, since 18th Ashwin 2082 BS. These rains have already caused both human and material losses, which are widely known.

In the early hours of 19th Ashwin 2082, around 2–3 AM, unexpected landslides and flooding occurred, severely damaging the physical infrastructure of the Mai Beni Hydropower Project (9.51 MW), constructed and operated by Samling Power Company Ltd. Since flooding in the river has not yet fully subsided, the assessment of damages is ongoing. Currently, electricity generation from the project has been completely suspended.
