Sagarmatha Jalabidhyut Company Suspends Power Generation After Flood and Landslide Damage

agarmatha Jalabidhyut Company Limited (SMJC) has halted power generation at its Supermai A Hydropower Project (9.6 MW) after the project sustained damage due to continuous rainfall, flooding, and landslides in the region. According to the company, the heavy downpour on Ashwin 18, 2082 (October 4, 2025) triggered floods and landslides that severely affected the project’s infrastructure, forcing a complete shutdown of electricity production from 10:45 PM the same night.

SMJC stated that maintenance and assessment works are being planned and will proceed once the weather improves and conditions become safe for operations. The company has assured that all concerned authorities and stakeholders will be informed once the plant resumes electricity generation.
