Transport entrepreneurs have stressed that passengers should be treated respectfully and provided with hygienic food services to help improve the country’s public transport sector.

Speaking at a programme in Kathmandu organised to honour the newly elected executive committee of the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs following its Seventh General Convention in Pokhara, speakers said courteous behaviour and prompt service towards passengers are essential for enhancing the image and quality of public transportation.

Outgoing Federation President Bijay Bahadur Swanr said his four-year tenure focused on introducing several reform-oriented initiatives in the transport sector.

He underlined the importance of ensuring respectful treatment for passengers alongside clean and hygienic food facilities to bring meaningful improvements to public transport services. “We invest billions in the transport sector, yet we are often seen only as bus owners. It is now time to establish ourselves as professional entrepreneurs,” he said.

Newly elected Federation President Punya Prasad (Saroj) Sitaula is committed to further organising and modernising the public transport sector to make it more reliable, disciplined, and passenger-friendly.

He said the new leadership would work closely with the government to reduce road accidents and promote an IT-based transport system.

According to Sitaula, the sector has attracted investments exceeding Rs 1,300 billion and generated employment opportunities for more than 500,000 people.
