The Bagmati provincial government has announced a public holiday across Chitwan, Makwanpur, and Dhading districts on Monday, Bhadra 22, to mark Nwagi (also known as Chhonam), the major cultural festival of the indigenous Chepang community.

The decision was officially published in the provincial Rajpatra by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law. According to provincial authorities, the holiday aims to recognize and honor the cultural traditions of the Chepang community, who reside predominantly in these three districts.

Nwagi is a traditional harvest festival celebrated annually by the Chepang people, during which they offer their newly harvested crops and fruits to their ancestors before consuming them. By issuing the notice, the provincial government has ensured that community members and local residents in the affected areas can participate in the cultural celebrations.
