Prime Minister Sushila Karki has extended warm greetings to all Nepali sisters and brothers on the occasion of the 76th National Democracy Day, calling on citizens to renew their commitment to democratic ideals and national unity.

In a message shared through social media, the Prime Minister recalled that the first parliamentary election in 2015 B.S. began on this historic day, following the 2007 B.S. revolution that transformed the people from subjects into empowered citizens.

She also described the day as a significant milestone in the country’s democratic journey, referring to it as “Election Day.” Reflecting on the nation’s political progress, Prime Minister Karki acknowledged past shortcomings in institutionalizing democracy as a way of life.

“We failed at the leadership level to make democracy a way of life. We had to wage a protest repeatedly. Now we must end that. Let us resolve against corruption, nepotism, and discrimination, and address it through institutional reforms,” she stated.

Emphasizing the importance of democratic stability, she urged all stakeholders to unite in strengthening governance through free, fair, and transparent elections, which she said are essential for building a prosperous Nepal. The Prime Minister also paid heartfelt tributes to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for democracy and good governance, honoring their contributions to securing the rights and freedoms enjoyed today. She called on citizens to uphold their legacy by safeguarding democratic values and working collectively toward inclusive development and national progress.
