Nepal Rastra Bank has asked commercial banks and financial institutions to make arrangements for dispensing 100 rupee banknotes directly from ATM machines.

Currently, ATMs across the country primarily cash out 500 rupee and 1,000 rupee notes. However, public frequently request smaller denominations, especially 100 rupee notes. With the major festival of Hindu “Dashain” approaching, demand for smaller cash notes rises sharply as people use them for daily purchases, celebrations, and traditional gifts.

NRB says , according to consultations with several banks, technical adjustments can be made to enable ATMs to distribute 100 rupee notes. The central bank stated that providing smaller notes through ATMs will significantly reduce overcrowding at bank physical counters, save customers time, and improve crowd management during the festive rush.
