PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal to Seek Vote of Confidence from House of Representatives

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is set to seek a vote of confidence from the House of Representatives (HoR) today. This action is in accordance with Article 100 (2) of the Constitution.

The constitutional provision mandates that if a political party supporting the Prime Minister divides or a coalition party withdraws its support, the Prime Minister must table a motion in the HoR for a vote of confidence within 30 days.

Prime Minister Dahal is seeking this vote following the withdrawal of support by the Janata Samajwadi Party, led by former Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Upendra Yadav.

The motion regarding the vote of confidence must be passed by a majority of all members in the HoR. Prime Minister Dahal will present the proposal in today's session as per Rule 155 of the HoR Regulations 2079 BS. The Speaker will present the proposal for a decision, which will be determined by a division of votes with the signature of the members.

Shekhar Adhikari, the Speaker's press advisor, announced that a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee has been scheduled for 10:00 AM today to discuss the Prime Minister's vote of confidence.

The fourth session of the federal parliament began on May 10. The government's annual policies and programs for the upcoming fiscal year 2024/25 BS were presented in a joint sitting of the federal parliament on May 28.
