PM Dahal Affirms National Interest in Agreements; Clarifies on India-Nepal Meeting

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' assured the House of Representatives, State Affairs and Good Governance Committee that the government will only engage in agreements that align with Nepal's national interest. Responding to inquiries about his recent meeting with India's Minister of External Affairs, S Jaishankar, PM Dahal emphasized discussions were centered on matters crucial to Nepal, particularly the electricity trade agreement.
During the discussions, PM Dahal clarified that the electricity trade agreement with India, allowing Nepal to export 10,000 megawatts of power over 10 years, is in Nepal's national interest. He emphasized that Nepal has an active role in deciding and participating in projects of up to Rs 200 million investment, countering any misconception that India makes decisions unilaterally.
Addressing concerns about the Chinese delegation's visit, PM Dahal stated that the Indian External Affairs Minister did not mention it during their meeting. He affirmed the commitment to unanimous consensus in amending the Constitutional Council Act, aiming to eliminate past issues and irregularities in constitutional appointments.
