Visitors will soon be able to book tickets online from home to visit the historic Patan Durbar Museum, a site of immense cultural and historical value recognized under the World Heritage framework of UNESCO.

The museum administration has announced that preparations to implement an online ticketing system targeting both domestic and international tourists have reached the final stage. According to Museum Head Suresh Man Lakhe, the digital booking platform is currently undergoing a trial phase.

At present, tickets are issued through two counters within the museum premises. A QR-code-based payment option has already been introduced, paving the way for a fully online system.

“Once visitors can book tickets online from home, it will make travel more convenient,” Lakhe said. “We are preparing for an official launch soon, and the system is now being tested.”

The administration believes the online service will eliminate long queues, save visitors’ time, and help manage tourist flow more effectively.

Located in Lalitpur, the museum remains one of Nepal’s most visited heritage attractions. In 2025, it welcomed 313,300 visitors, including 105,300 foreign tourists. Among those international visitors, 43,053 arrived from SAARC member countries.

Officials expect the digital ticketing system to further enhance visitor experience while supporting better preservation and management of the historic site.
