NRB Governor Highlights Nepal’s Economic Stability and Policy Reforms at 48th SAARCFINANCE Governors’ Meeting in Washington D.C.
Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Dr. Biswo Nath Poudel attended the 48th SAARCFINANCE Governors’ Group Meeting held on October 14, 2025, in Washington D.C., alongside the World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings. The event, chaired by Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur, brought together central bank governors, deputy governors, and finance ministry officials from South Asia to discuss regional economic cooperation.
In his address, Dr. Poudel outlined Nepal’s stable economic indicators, noting that inflation and external sector performance remain under control due to effective monetary policies.
However, he warned that political uncertainty continues to challenge fiscal management and sustainable growth. He emphasized NRB’s proactive policy efforts to stimulate economic revival and ensure stability.
Key topics discussed included strengthening the SAARC Payment Council, promoting financial inclusion, exploring currency swap mechanisms, and enhancing regional data systems. The meeting concluded with the chairmanship of SAARCFINANCE being handed over from Bangladesh Bank to Bhutan’s Royal Monetary Authority. Dr. Poudel was accompanied by senior NRB officials to ensure the meeting’s outcomes inform future policy planning and regional financial cooperation.
