New Year not yet “Happy” for the stock market; Registers fall of 5.42 points to close at 1,180.43 points

The local bourse has refused to show any signs of improvement as it has registered a fall of 5.42 points to end the day. The index which had started at 1,185.85 decreased continuously from the start of the trading period and closed at 1,180.43 points.

During the day, the stock market filed total turnover of Rs 25.76 crore only which was attained through trading of 7,51,411 units shares. Shares of 154 companies were traded through 3,371 transactions.

The Sensitive index decreased by 1.28 points while the Float index decreased by 0.37 points.

In a day with rather low turnover, Chilime Hydropower Company Limited (CHCL) was the top stock based on its turnover as shares worth Rs 2.28 crore were traded during the day. It amounted to about 10% of the day’s trade. On the other hand, Janata Bank Nepal Limited (JBNL) was the top stock by units of shares traded as 49,969 units were traded during the day.

The shareholders of Kalika Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (KMCDB) gained the most as the price of the stock increased by 95 points as its LTP stood at Rs 1,104. However, the shareholders of Arun Kabeli Power Limited (AKPL) lost the most during the day as the price of the stock decreased by 9 points and its LTP stood at Rs 184.

Out of the 11 sub-indices, only Trading and Microfinance sectors were able to register gain. Microfinance sector increased by 6.59 points while Trading sector increased by 2.79 points. Life Insurance sector lost 68.39 points which was followed by Hydropower sector losing 12.62 points.
