Nepse up by 6.91 points to 346.44 points
KATHMANDU, May 15:
There is finally a week when Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) kept surging, though nominally. The ailing stock market witnessed a surge of 6.91 points after going through continuous slump for last four weeks.
On Sunday morning, the secondary market opened at 339.53 points. However by the closing time, the market inched a little up to 340.66 points. Next day also, the index rested at 340.83 points.
Though on Tuesday, the index surged to 344.08 points after almost a month of continuous slide.
On Wednesday, index went up a little to 344.66 points and by the end of the week, it reached 346.44 points.
This week, Nepse’s trading floor observed 523,724-unit shares of 112 companies worth Rs 94.6 million being traded through 5,787 transactions in the five trading days.
This is 38.55 per cent higher in the transaction volume in comparison with that of last week.
The sensitive index measuring the performance of Class-A companies increased by 1.9 points, reaching 85.36 points by the end of the week. Among the total transactions, the trading of blue-chip stocks of Class-A companies comprised 58.32 per cent, amounting to Rs 59.83 million.
The float index that indicates the performance of the actual shares traded throughout the week went up by 0.45 points to 29.16 points.
Commercial Banks, hydropower and others subgroups gained in the week’s trading while development banks, insurance and finance companies ended up in the red zone.
Nepal Telecom gained Rs 2 on a unit that pushed the others subgroup by 7.05 points. As major commercial banks gained throughout the week, the banking subgroup also went up by 7.05 points. Arun Valley Hydropower earned Rs 20 on its shares pushing the hydropower subgroup by 3.17 points. Soaltee Hotel lost Rs 8 on a unit pulling the hotel subgroup down by 9.04 points.
The development banks, finance companies and insurance companies lost 1.04 points, 3.68 points and 2.6 points, respectively. There was no trading in shares of companies belonging to manufacturing and trading subgroups.
This week saw People’s Finance topping the charts in terms of transaction amount and in terms of number of shares transacted as the company’s 96,468-unit shares worth Rs 22,290 was traded this week. In terms of number of transactions, Jyoti Bikas Bank Ltd topped with 763 transactions.
The top five performers of the week are People’s Finance (Rs 22.19 million), ICFC Finance (Rs 6.33 million), Chilime Hydropower Company (Rs 5.93 million), Bank of Kathmandu (RS 4.06 million) and Nabil Bank (Rs 4.06 million).
This week saw more than 760,000 units of bonus and right shares listed in the secondary market.
