NEPSE index plunges by 39.97 points; amid fear of border closure

Today the benchmark index of Nepal Stock Exchange Limited (NEPSE) plunged by 39.97 points or 3.34 percent. Opening at the 1196.58 level this afternoon, the local bourse continued in downward trend to settle at level 1156.05. Despite the constitution promulgation, such impact was seen in NEPSE as India issued a press release refraining the welcoming of the new constitution. Plus, the terai unrest and rumors that India will be sealing the borders has played a role of catalyst in sharp slide of NEPSE index. Except manufacturing & production, all other sectors landed in red. Insurance, Hydropower, Hotels, Banking and others sector plunged by double digit. Sensitive index and the float index came has gone down by 8.96 points and 3.09 points respectively. The total turnover of the day stood above Rs 53.27 crore where more than 8 lakhs unit shares were traded through 2,637 transactions. JNBL, NBB, NIBPO, GBIME, PCBL, PRVU, ILFC, SRBL, CZBIL and NICA were among the top traded shares. RBCLPO, MMFDB, SINDU, NBBL, INDBL, JBNL, GFCL, UFCL, ARUN and MPFL were among the top gainers of the day. HAMA, SUPRME, HBL, JBBL, KBL, SWBBL, BLDBL, ILFC, ARDBL and LBL were the top losers of the day.
