In response to the growing demand from general investors, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) has introduced a new feature on its website, effective from 1st Shrawan 2082, that allows users to view buy and sell orders for odd lot transactions in the market depth section. This move aims to address frequent complaints from investors who were previously unable to buy or sell their securities when holding odd lot quantities.
NEPSE believes this initiative will help resolve investor grievances related to difficulties in trading odd lot shares.
According to the Securities Trading Regulations, 2075, specific provisions are in place regarding odd lot transactions. For securities with a face value of Rs. 10, 100 units constitute a board lot, and for securities with a face value of Rs. 100, 10 units make up a board lot. Any transaction involving fewer shares than those defined as board lots falls under the category of odd lot trading.
The regulations also clarify that odd lot transactions do not influence price limits or market index calculations. Furthermore, if the number of shares in a board lot gets reduced due to corporate actions or other adjustments, such shares are not automatically categorized as odd lots unless they meet the regulatory criteria.
