Nepal has seen a major surge in the import of electric vehicles (EVs) during the first eleven months of the current fiscal year, reflecting a growing consumer shift toward eco-friendly transport. According to data released by the Department of Customs, the country imported a total of 10,845 electric vehicles during this period. The total value of these imported vehicles stands at approximately 25.56 billion Nepalese Rupees. The imported models span various power capacities, ranging from 50 kilowatts to 200 kilowatts above, highlighting a diverse and expanding market for electric mobility in the country.

Among the imported categories, mid range electric vehicles with capacities between 51 kilowatts and 100 kilowatts emerged as the most popular choice for buyers. The customs data shows that 6,357 vehicles within this specific power range were brought into the country, accounting for a valuation of roughly 16.50 billion Rupees. This significant volume indicates that consumers highly prefer mid capacity vehicles for their daily commuting needs.

Additionally, smaller electric vehicles with a capacity of up to 50 kilowatts also recorded substantial import numbers. Over the same eleven month period, Nepal imported 3,680 of these smaller vehicles, valued at around 5.65 billion Rupees. The robust numbers across both small and mid range segments demonstrate that electric cars are rapidly gaining widespread acceptance and becoming a mainstream choice for mainstream drivers in Nepal.
