Nepal Telecom testing convergent billing system

KATHMANDU, July 6:
Nepal Telecom (NT) has started demonstration of feasibility of convergent billing system, which is expected to come into operation after a year.
Shreedhar Gautam, secretary at the Ministry of Information of Communications (MoIC), told Republica that NT had had started proof of concept test of the convergent billing software.
“We will step into the procurement process once the proof of concept test is completed,” he added.
Convergent billing system is a fully software-operated system for easy and hassle-free payment of bills. At present, NT customers are compelled to visit different offices and counters for the payment of bills of different services.
Once NT installs the software, customers can make payment of internet, mobile, PSTN or any other services through a single bill and from a single counter.
NT has already forwarded a letter of intent to Singapore-based software solutions provider AsiaInfo to purchase its software. AsiaInfo had offered cheapest price for the billing software. The state-owned telecom operator is investing Rs 2 billion in the project.
“The first phase is likely to come into implementation within a year,” the official said.
During the first phase, NT would include bills of PSTN and GSM. It will later add bills of ADSL and CDMA services as well.
NT officials said it might take up to three years for the complete system to come into operation.
