Nepal Telecom plans to improve quality of service

Nepal Telecom (NT) has carrying out different activities to enhance Quality of Service of mobile service both GSM and CDMA, it claimed.
The company has requested ZTE to carry out maintenance and replacement work in two months, secretary at Ministry of Information and Communication Shreedhar Gautam, who is also the chairman of NT board said, adding that the ministry is optimist that consumers will get better Quality of Service after two months.
“The technology upgradation is going on across the country including Kathmandu valley,” NT spokesperson Surendra Prasad Thike confirmed.
It has been found that some BTSs of Nepal Telecom are facing technical problem, Thike said, adding that it has directed ZTE to ensure the technical quality of all the equipment. “ZTE is carrying out network optimisation works along with replacement of defunct BTS cards and even the BTS, if needed,” he said.
Meanwhile, the company has still been on confusion regarding its ‘bridging project’. Public Accounts Committee (PAC) under Legislature Parliament on August 2, had directed Nepal Telecom to follow the Public Procurement Act and make procurement processes more transparent.
However, nothing concrete has happened regarding the bridging project from which it was planning to procure 1.1 million of GSM and 0.4 million of CDMA telephone lines without bidding process.
Public Accounts Committee (PAC) direction did not state clearly whether to implement the project or not, Gautam said, adding that the next board meeting of Nepal Telecom will take the decision into this effect. “Nepal Telecom is loosing its hold due to lack of prompt decision process, he further added.
The telecom service provider has been loosing its market share due to poor service quality and rampant corruption in the institution, a NT source said.
