Nepal Rastra Bank Birgunj Office celebrated Global Money Week , 2022 on Pokhariya Municipality, Parsa District

Following GMW2022 Theme: “Build your future, be smart about money” Nepal Rastra Bank Birgunj Office and A-class Banks of Birgunj in co-ordination with Pokhariya Municipality Parsa, jointly organized “Financial Literacy Program”. The program was chaired by Mr. Rajan Dev Bhattarai, Director of Nepal Rastra Bank Birgunj office. The chief guest of the program was Mr. Deep Narayan Prasad Rauniyar, mayor of Pokhariya Municipality.

GMW is an annual global awareness-raising campaign organized by the OECD International Network on Financial Education (OECD/INFE)  ensuring that young people, from an early age, are financially aware, and are gradually acquiring the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors necessary to make sound financial decisions and ultimately achieve financial well-being and financial resilience. Starting in 2012, 9th edition has been completed reaching over 53 million children and young people in 176 countries worldwide. The 10th edition of GMW is taking place from 21-27 March 2022. Nepal Rastra Bank is the national coordinator for GMW for Nepal. On the previous occasion of 2021 more than 20,000 people have been reached by this campaign in Nepal.

With the aim of educating participants, Mr. Shivanath Sah and Mr. Meghnath Saraf, Branch Managers of Century Commercial Bank and Prime Bank, Birgunj jointly gave a presentation about Remittance, its formal sources, importance, and benefits. They further cautioned about recently surging illegal means of sending money home like hundi and suggested not to indulge in these means. They further advised the general public, diaspora, and ex-pats to send money home through legal channels using banks and money remitters agents and to prevent themselves from being deceived and eventually losing their hard-earned money.

Mr. Bhattarai, Director of Nepal Rastra Bank,  Birgunj talked about the current situation on financial literacy, increasing banking frauds, cyber crimes, and illegal financial dealings and advised the general public to use only legal channels for conducting any financial dealings.

Mr. Rauniyar, mayor of Pokhariya Municipality addressed the general public of the municipality. He advised locals of a municipality to take advantage of banking services like saving accounts, money transfer, utilizing credits as the number of banks and financial institutions have been increased in the municipality. He further urged them to inculcate banking behavior on daily financial dealings and also to disseminate banking knowledge and information to others in the locality.

Mrs. Priyanka Basnyat, Deputy Director of Nepal Rastra Bank, Birgunj office welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of the program. The program had the presence of Mrs. Sudha Shrestha, Deputy Director, Mr. Krishna Kumar Shrestha, Acting  Deputy Director, Mr. Pradip Baniya, Assistant Director of Nepal Rastra  Bank Birgunj Office, Representatives of A-class banks of Birgunj, and Local citizens of Various wards of Pokhariya Municipality.
