Nepal Oil Corporation Urges Public to Use Petroleum and LPG Sparingly
Nepal Oil Corporation has urged the public to purchase and use only the necessary amount of petroleum products and cooking gas, citing concerns over possible global supply disruptions.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the state-owned oil supplier requested consumers not to refill extra gas cylinders or store them unnecessarily. The corporation also encouraged households to increase the use of electricity for cooking and other purposes instead of relying heavily on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
The corporation noted that Nepal is entirely dependent on imports for petroleum products, making the country vulnerable to international market fluctuations. In the current global context, precautionary measures in fuel consumption are necessary to ensure a stable supply.
According to the statement, the import and sale of petroleum products in the country are currently operating regularly. However, the corporation urged the public to avoid hoarding fuel or LPG in anticipation of possible shortages.
The corporation warned that strict action will be taken against individuals or businesses found hoarding gas cylinders, selling petroleum products or LPG at inflated prices, or engaging in the unauthorized sale of new cylinders.
It also advised industries to reduce the use of petroleum products and LPG where possible and switch to alternative energy sources such as electricity.
The corporation emphasized that although supplies remain normal at present, Nepal could still be affected by global developments, particularly due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East that could impact fuel markets worldwide.
