Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has temporarily stopped the sale of LPG gas for commercial use to hotels, restaurants and other businesses in Kathmandu Valley to ensure smooth supply for household consumers. Under the new arrangement, large hotels, restaurants and industries in the Valley will not be able to purchase LPG for commercial purposes from local gas depots and sellers. Instead, they will have to buy gas directly from LPG industries outside the Valley and arrange their own transportation to Kathmandu.

According to NOC Gas Department Chief Binit Mani Upadhyay, the decision was taken to give priority to household consumers, as high demand from businesses could reduce the supply available to the general public. LPG cylinders brought into the Valley from districts such as Hetauda, Chitwan and Nawalparasi will also not be allowed to be sold for commercial use. NOC expects the measure to improve LPG availability for households, particularly during periods of supply shortages.
