The Nepal-made Yatri motorcycles have begun registrations with implementation of amended directives.

Earlier, the company was not able to register its products due its inability to present copies of documents received while importing vehicles.

In absence of clear and well-defined regulations for products made in-state, the company was not able to register its product. Consequently, the company had halted commercial production since a few months.

Following the amendments in Motor Vehicles and Transport Management Act 2049 and 2074; the amended Transport Management Directive 2060 makes it mandatory to submit original copies of custom notification and custom fee to register.

After the amendments, the Yatri Motorcycles can be registered on the basis of submission of VAT bill and excise duty.

Previously, Chairperson of the National Innovation Center Mahabir Pun had to organize a sit-in protests that had converged much media attention. Pun had put forth several demands to be addressed by the ruling government. The protests had come to an end after Pun signed a seven-point agreement with the government.

One of the demands required for the government to give permission for license, grants and easy loans required to start an enterprise and make policies for promoting indigenous products, through 'New Entrepreneur Development Committee”.

Point 4 of the struck deal requires the government to promote research and development, innovation and invention by bringing-in policy-related, legal and organizational provisions. The point extends mandating the government to bring improvements in existing laws relevant for receiving approval, license, registration, operation and to maintain sustainability of  indigenous products developed through research.
