Nepal Celebrates 19th Republic Day with Nationwide Programmes
The 19th Republic Day is being observed across the country today with various formal programmes and celebrations. Nepal was declared a Federal Democratic Republic on Jestha 15, 2065 BS following the first meeting of the Constituent Assembly, ending the centuries-old monarchy system in the country.
The day is celebrated every year to commemorate the historic declaration that transformed Nepal into a republican state and established the federal democratic governance system. Various government bodies, political parties, civil society organizations and local levels have organized programmes to mark the occasion.
On the occasion, President Ramchandra Paudel stated that strengthening good governance, development and prosperity remains the country’s major priority. In his message, the President stressed the need for accountable, transparent and people-oriented governance to fulfill the aspirations of citizens through the federal democratic republican system.
President Paudel also called for cooperation among all levels of government, the private sector and civil society to ensure social justice, inclusive development and economic prosperity envisioned by the constitution. He urged all stakeholders to contribute towards maintaining national unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity and sustainable economic growth.
The President further paid tribute to all known and unknown martyrs who sacrificed their lives during various democratic movements for the establishment of the republican system in Nepal.
