Nepal and India Set to Ink Historic 25-Year Electricity Trade Agreement

Nepal and India are poised to formalize a groundbreaking 25-year electricity trade agreement. The stage is set for the accord to be signed during the ongoing meeting of the Nepal-India Foreign Minister-level Joint Commission, which is seeing the participation of Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar.
This development follows a preliminary agreement inked during Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's visit to India on the 17th of Jestha, 2080. The imminent signing ceremony is expected to involve key figures such as Nepal's Energy Secretary, Gopal Prasad Sigdel, and his Indian counterpart, Pankaj Aggarwal.
As per the terms outlined in the agreement, India commits to purchasing a substantial 10,000 megawatts of electricity from Nepal over the next decade. This accord not only solidifies the long-term commitment between the two nations but also paves the way for Nepal to emerge as a significant player in the regional electricity market.
