Namaste Pay comes into operation after months-long preparation; NTC and Banijaya Bank collaborate to come up with digital wallet service that runs on keypad phones even without internet

Namaste Pay, a joint venture between Nepal Telecom and Rastriya Banijaya Bank, has kickstarted the first stage of mobile payment service amid a program on Bhadra 29, 2078.

The event was marked by Secretary of Information Ministry Dr. Baikuntha Aryal, chairman of Rastriya Banijaya Bank Mr. Ram Saran Pudasaini, chairman of Nepal Digital Payment Mr. Rajendra Aryal among others who jointly revealed the logo of Namaste Pay wallet and its android app.

Apart from the regular app version, The service is also available in the USSD code system where the customers without internet access and with old keypad style phone can also easily access the digital wallet service with the help of USSD code 500. During its early stage, Namaste Pay is offering a limited number of services such as NTC mobile top-up, water, and electricity bill payment which will be gradually extended in a near future, as per the media statement.

For now, customers can load funds in their Namaste Pay wallet from Rastriya Banijaya Bank, Nepal Bank, other few BFIs while the company is working to include other BFIs in its network and expand via its own agent coverage, as per the media statement.
