Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to get Rs 8.59 billion

A total of Rs 8.59 billion has been allocated in the new annual budget for the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

Unveiling the new budget for the fiscal year 2022/023 today, Finance Minister Janardan Sharma said the media sector that plays vital role in promotion of democratic system and good-governance would be made more responsible, professional and transparent. 

In the new budget, the Finance Minister announced that provisions would be made for the cyber security test of electronic systems from the government and the postal service would be made modern and professional.

Likewise, development of physical infrastructure for data centre would be started at Kohalpur of Banke and Khumaltar of Lalitpur.

According to Minister Sharma, a feasibility study would be carried out for the establishment of a data centre in Dharan and internet exchange centre in Butwal. 

Similarly, Disaster Recovery Centre would be established along with the capacity building of National Information Technology Centre.

He further said access and coverage of Radio Nepal and Nepal Television would be made cent percent and capacity of Department of Information and Transmission would be enhanced. 

As stated in the new budget, Security Printing Centre and Department of Printing would be merged. 

In order to encourage the singers, musicians and creators of Nepali traditional, unique and diverse songs and music, film city project of Dolakha would be advanced under the government framework for the infrastructure development of film sector. A state of the art indoor studio would be brought into operation in Banepa of Kavre.

The programmes of accident insurance programme for journalists and public welfare advertisement have been continued in the new fiscal year too.
