A team led by Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Kulman Ghising, including Ministry Secretary Keshav Sharma and Department of Roads Director General Bijaya Jaisi, conducted a monitoring inspection of the BP Highway sections damaged by recent floods and landslides.

The inspection focused on preparations to reopen the highway by constructing a temporary diversion along the approximately four-kilometre stretch affected by the floods. Minister Ghising urged the engineers and construction contractors on site to expedite the work, emphasizing the highway’s importance as a vital link connecting the Bagmati, Madhesh, and Koshi provinces with the federal capital, Kathmandu.

The Bhakunde–Nepalthok section, previously damaged by last year’s floods, had a temporary diversion allowing transport operations. However, the recent floods have again destroyed about four kilometres of this road.

Minister Ghising’s secretariat stated that contracts for permanent reconstruction of some previously damaged sections have already been awarded, while contracts for additional sections are in the final stages. The ministry is committed to ensuring the highway becomes fully operational as quickly as possible.
