The inaugural session of the Aid Projects of China's Tibet Autonomous Region to Nepal (2024-2028) convened in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, on April 23-24, marking a significant milestone in bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

During the concluding session on Wednesday, delegates deliberated extensively on the aid projects earmarked for implementation in Nepal, under the auspices of the Lhasa-based Consulate General of Nepal. Discussions centered on establishing a robust coordination mechanism for aid projects, encompassing work schedules, project selection criteria, implementation strategies, and monitoring mechanisms.

A key outcome of the meeting was the agreement to convene aid project meetings biannually, with a focus on project planning and arrangement in the first half of the year, followed by implementation and project review sessions in the latter half. Both sides emphasized the imperative of bolstering support to enhance the livelihoods of residents in bordering districts of Nepal's Northern Himalayan region through these aid initiatives.

The co-chairmanship of the meeting was shared by the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, Nepal, Kamal Prasad Bhattarai, and the Director General of the Foreign Affairs Office of Tibet, Baiman Yangzong, signifying the collaborative spirit underpinning the discussions.

Additionally, on the same day, Joint Secretary Bhattarai and the head of the Nepali delegation extended a courtesy call to the Executive Vice-Chairman of the People’s Government of Tibet, Chen Yongqi. The meeting served as a platform to exchange views on mutual interests, including the promotion of socio-economic linkages aimed at further strengthening Nepal-China relations.

Looking ahead, the second meeting of the Aid Projects to Nepal is slated to convene next month, reaffirming the commitment of both nations to advancing bilateral cooperation and sustainable development initiatives.
