Kalikot Declared Third Fully Vaccinated District in Karnali Province
Kalikot has officially become the third district in Karnali Province to be declared a fully vaccinated zone, ensuring vital health protections for its youngest residents and pregnant women.
The announcement was made on Sunday following successful vaccination campaigns across all nine local government areas in the district. To achieve this status, healthcare workers tracked down and successfully vaccinated 3,636 children. Officials confirmed that every child from birth to five years old has now received all nine required childhood vaccines. Additionally, the initiative successfully reached pregnant women and adolescent girls with their necessary vaccine doses.
According to local health officials, the district's strategy relied heavily on community level tracking. While children are expected to complete their routine vaccine schedule by 15 months of age, health teams launched a dedicated search and vaccinate campaign to find children between 16 and 59 months old who had missed a dose, ensuring no one was left behind.
Health leaders credited the milestone to the hard work of female health volunteers, local healthcare staff, and strong support from the local government. Operating under a commitment to use local resources and community participation, Kalikot now joins Dailekh and Surkhet as the only districts in the province to guarantee complete vaccine coverage for their communities.
