IT enthusiasts from across the country throng CAN SofTech 2014

KATHMANDU, Sept 13:

Enthusiasts of the Information Technology (IT) have been thronging the Subisu CAN SofTech 2014 underway in the capital.

Regardless of distance and weather condition, visitors from different parts of the country have been visiting the gala IT event in the bid to keep themselves abreast with new development and innovation in the IT sector around in the country and the world.

One of such IT enthusiasts was Shreedhar Prajapati of Chitwan. Prajapati, a BA 1st year student, was in the capital with his friends for a weekend.

Prajapati was scheduled to return back home early morning on Saturday. However, he rescheduled his travel to Sunday after he came to know about the ongoing SofTech fair.

“Despite being the student of Humanities, I do have keen interest in IT and IT-related products,” Prajapati talked with Republica, adding “I´m here in the fair to update myself on the latest in the IT sector.”

However, Prajapati complained that such IT fairs are conducted only in the capital. “I wish such fairs were conducted in different parts of the country, too” added he.

There were hundreds of visitors from across the country visiting different stalls at the SofTech.

Sudharsan Dhungana of Kavrepalanchowk was there at the show to purchase antivirus software among others for his desktop computer. “IT-related fairs are rear in the country despite the fact that Nepali people, basically the youths, are keen about the IT revolution,” Dhungana said. “Both the government and the private sector should prioritize the sector and conduct such fairs elsewhere in the country, too, so that the entire nation can benefit from this phenomenon.”

As in the previous years, most of the visitors at the exhibition are youths, basically students. Bishow Balami, the coordinator of the event, says, “The show this year too has seen participation of the youth. Students are the ones having much higher level of interest to the IT industry and innovations.”

Balami also vowed to make the event more student and youth friendly in coming days. According to him, visitors were thronging the stall of Nepal Telecom the most. Visitors were rushing to purchase RIM, SIM and EVDO of the telecom. Nepal Telecom has offered 3G SIM and RIM card at Rs 100 with the main balance of Rs 100 itself.

Organizers said that visitor participation at the show has been overwhelming until the third day of the event. On the first and the second day, 20,000 and 35,000 visitors had visited the event.

The four-day fair has 142 stalls about gadgets, computer education, banking, information management, account management, antivirus and computer security and services from internet, cable and television service providers among others.

Meanwhile, a seminar on the gap between universities and IT industry of the country was conducted within the event on Saturday aiming to make universities IT-friendly.
