IRD honors six top tax payers of Sagarmatha zone

KATHMANDU, May 4:

The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has felicitated six highest taxpayers under its regional office in Lahan.

The felicitation is a part of IRD´s ongoing campaign to felicitate taxpayers making significant contribution in national economy for the fiscal year 2012/13.

At a function organized jointly by IRD Lahan, the department felicitated Solukhumbu based Mid Himalayan Health and Environmental Service,
Ohkhaldhunga based KATHMANDU, May 4:

The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has felicitated six highest taxpayers under its regional office in Lahan.

The felicitation is a part of IRD´s ongoing campaign to felicitate taxpayers making significant contribution in national economy for the fiscal year 2012/13.

At a function organized jointly by IRD Lahan, the department felicitated Solukhumbu based Mid Himalayan Health and Environmental Service,
Ohkhaldhunga based Karuna Order and Suppliers and Khotang based Diktel English Boarding School. Similarly, those other felicitated are Subash Oil Center from Udaypur, Shramjibi Saving and Credit Cooperatives Siraha and Multipurpose Finance Company Limited Saptari. They were honored by the IRD for filing highest income tax in Fiscal Year 2011/12.

IRD Director General Tankamani Sharma has felicitated the taxpayers with the appreciation letter during the program.

Speaking at the felicitation ceremony, Sharma urged the people to file the income tax as per the state laws and regulations. “The tax administration has considered the first tax officer to the taxpayers themselves. The taxpayers are allowed for the book keeping of their transaction themselves which means that the government has trust on their taxpayers which they should not breach,” he said, adding that the department was striving to make the taxation system more people friendly.

Likewise, he also said that the department was working for the reform of taxation system so that taxpayers trust the tax offices instead of any apprehension.

The government has commemorated the FY 2011/12 as ‘Taxation System Reform Year’ as well as prepared 5-year strategic plan and 3-year reform plan in order to make the revenue collection more effective. The government had collected Rs 67.01 billion income tax against the target of Rs 63.48 billion.

Meanwhile, Director General Sharma also made the field observation of the IRD Lahan office and directed the staff of the office to work more honestly and effectively to meet the revenue target of the government.

Similarly, an interaction program was also held following the felicitation ceremony on taxation system. During the interaction program, Sharma said that the department was planning to add more tax offices in new places keeping in view of the convenience of the taxpayers. IRD Lahan Chief Tax Officer Ram Prasad Pathak, Chief District Officer of Siraha Anil Thakur, representatives of Lahan Chamber of Commerce and Industries, taxpayers from all five districts of Sagarmatha zone and representatives of government offices, among others, were present in the program.

Director General Sharma said that the department will make the taxation system simpler by the coming fiscal year by making necessary amendment to tax laws and regulations and through strict enforcement of such laws.

Also speaking in the program, Nima Tendup Sherpa of Mid Himalayan Health and Environmental Service and Dhan Karna Shrestha of Diktel English Boarding School said that honoring the best taxpayers would help encourage the taxpayers to come under tax net.
