Insurance Receives Claims above Rs 22 billion After Gen-Z Protests

According to the Nepal Insurance Authority, Insurance companies have received claims of total Rs 22.25 billion following the Gen-Z protests on September 8 and 9, in Nepal. A total of 2,478 claims were submitted across 18 insurance companies, including micro insurance companies, citing damages from vandalism and arson affecting public and private entities.

Bagmati Province reported the highest claims, with 1,343 applications amounting to Rs 17.97 billion. The Oriental Insurance Company and Siddhartha Insurance Company alone received claims worth Rs 5.22 billion and Rs 5.8 billion, respectively.

The Claims cover losses to properties, vehicles, engineering projects, and contractor risks and others. Provincial claim breakdown includes 322 from Koshi, 246 from Madhes, 184 from Gandaki, 202 from Lumbini, 22 from Karnali, and 159 from Sudurpaschim province. The overall insurance claim amount is likely to rise, as evaluations of losses have not yet been completed.
