In a historic achievement, India has become the first country to successfully land a spacecraft on the moon's south pole. The Chandrayaan-3 mission aimed to touch down in a region believed to have water ice in deep craters.

The spacecraft launched from Andhra Pradesh and landed six weeks later to jubilant cheers at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre's mission control.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi watched the landing via conference call, celebrating the moment with an Indian flag. He emphasized that India's lunar success is a global achievement and an inspiration for all.

The mission's focus on water ice holds promise for future use in fuel, oxygen, and drinking water, potentially paving the way for a permanent lunar base. This accomplishment comes after previous attempts by India and Russia, with Russia's Luna-25 crashing and India overcoming the challenging terrain of the lunar south pole.
