HoR Election Campaigns Begin Today Under Code of Conduct
Formal election campaigning for the House of Representatives (HoR) elections scheduled for March 5 has begun from today, in line with the election code of conduct.
The Election Commission stated that political parties and candidates are now permitted to organize rallies, mass meetings, corner assemblies, and publish election-related materials in media outlets, as campaigning is allowed only within 15 days prior to the election date.
As per the code of conduct, parties and candidates may continue their publicity campaigns until midnight of March 1.
The Commission has urged all stakeholders to carry out election-related activities while fully upholding electoral integrity and maintaining discipline throughout the campaign period. It has also mobilized various mechanisms to effectively implement and monitor compliance with the code of conduct.
The EC warned that any violation of the code would invite clarification from the concerned political parties or candidates, followed by further legal action if necessary. However, it expressed confidence that such situations would be minimal, noting that the code of conduct was formulated after extensive consultations with political parties and other stakeholders.
Officiating Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari reiterated that the Commission has adopted a zero-tolerance policy toward violations, emphasizing strict adherence to electoral rules to ensure free, fair, and credible elections.
