The government has spent only 5.17 percent of the capital budget allocated for development projects as of the first quarter of the current fiscal year that ends on Tuesday.

According to the Financial Comptroller General Office (FCGO), the government has spent only Rs 19.68 Arba out of the allocated budget of Rs 3.80 Kharba for 2079/80, which is higher than the capital expenditure utilized by the government for the first quarter of the previous fiscal year, which is 3.94%.

Like almost every year, the government is likely to speed up spending on development projects only at the last hour of the current fiscal year, which will end in Ashad 2080. The rush for construction work in the last quarter of the fiscal year every time has put to question the quality of the infrastructures built in haste.

Meanwhile, the government has collected 14.87 percent of the targeted revenue worth Rs 2.08 Kharba in the first three months of the current fiscal year. Of the generated revenue, Rs 1.89 Kharba was collected in tax, against the targeted amount of Rs. 12.95 Kharba for this year.
