The government has urged all to join hands in the rescue and relief of the people affected by natural disaster, including floods and landslide in various parts of the country.

The Natural Disaster Risk Minimization and Management executive committee today has urged the government bodies, security agencies, social organizations, communities and all sides to join hands for the effective and planned rescue operation.

The incidents of landslides, water inundation and floods have increased following incessant rainfall since the past few days in the country and a large number of the people have been affected, with more than 30 deaths and thousands displaced.

The meeting also has urged the UN Resident Representatives Office to coordinate and cooperate in the rescue and relief operation. The meeting was chaired by the Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense Ishwar Pokharel, was also present in the meeting.

The meeting has urged all to remain alert as per the monsoon preparedness and response action coordinating all government and non governmental bodies for the same. An appeal has been made to the concerned to maintain stock of immediate relief materials for emergency rescue and settlement.

The executive committee also decided to direct the Food Corporation, Ministry of Health and Population, Nepal Red Cross Society, humanitarian relief groups and organizations and other stakeholders to maintain inventory of emergency supplies and provide them on demand in coordination with the concerned District Disaster Management Committee.

It decided to direct the local levels and District Disaster Management Committee to immediately expedite relief distribution at local level in coordination with the State governments. The meeting issued directive to the committee to request the Ministry of Home Affairs for additional resources.

Also the meeting decided that the local levels will make necessary arrangement for essential supplies including food, drinking water, medicine, tent in coordination with committee and state government through one door system.

The government has directed the concerned agencies including ministries, departments and offices to immediately mobilize resources and personnel for ensuring continuity of services such as road, bridge, electricity, telephone and drinking water. The meeting decided to collect details of loss by category and mainstream disaster risks while developing any physical infrastructure in the future.
