Governor Adhikari Inaugurates Global Money Week 2024: Focus on Youth Financial Education

"Global Money Week 2024" commenced with the theme 'Protect your money, secure your future', marking its twelfth annual occurrence, observed for a week every March.
The inaugural event in Kathmandu, Nepal, saw over 500 students from seven schools participating, inaugurated by Governor Mahaprasad Adhikari of Nepal Rastra Bank.
Governor Adhikari stressed the importance of effective financial literacy for achieving financial inclusion, emphasizing that financial services must reach all levels of society. He called for concerted efforts from relevant agencies to conduct awareness programs targeting children and youth.
The event featured panel discussions with officials from regulatory bodies and students, aiming to educate students about various financial institutions and operations.
The campaign, running until Chaitra 11, includes collaborative awareness programs with Nepal Rastra Bank, Nepal Insurance Authority, Securities Board of Nepal, Cooperative Department, and financial institutions, aiming to enhance financial literacy and access among youth, promote self-employment and entrepreneurship, and contribute to economic prosperity.
Globally initiated in 2012 by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Global Money Week has been celebrated annually in Nepal since 2013, benefitting millions of young people worldwide. Its core slogan is 'Learn. Save. Earn.', underscores the importance of financial education.
