The government has distributed cash assistance of Rs. 45,000 each to 4,108 households directly affected by the Bhote Koshi flood in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading.

The cash assistance was provided through a one-door system using funds made available by development partner World Food Programme (WFP), with measures taken to prevent duplication of relief support.

The assistance is being distributed in coordination with local governments, which have identified eligible flood-affected households. So far, beneficiaries from 11 local levels, five in Rasuwa, four in Nuwakot and two in Dhading, have received the cash support.

The government is preparing to distribute the assistance to around 1,400 additional households whose data are yet to be verified. The remaining beneficiaries are expected to receive the cash within three days.

A joint meeting of the monsoon response command posts of the three affected districts and the central command post, held on October 9, decided to streamline the identification and verification of disaster-affected households and expedite early recovery efforts.

As the Red Cross and other development partners have also expressed interest in providing cash assistance, the government has instructed local governments and concerned agencies to ensure that relief is distributed in accordance with the Disaster-Sensitive Social Protection and Relief Distribution Standards, 2081.

The system is intended to prevent duplication of assistance while ensuring that no eligible flood-affected household is left out.

The government has also intensified efforts for the long-term rehabilitation and management of communities affected by the floods. The focus is on ensuring sustained recovery and restoring livelihoods and essential infrastructure in the affected areas.
