Germany Pledges €8 Million in Flood Aid to Nepal After Bhote Koshi Flood

Germany is sending nearly €8 million in combined emergency, humanitarian and development support to Nepal following the Bhote Koshi floods, covering both immediate relief and longer-term recovery needs.

Over €500,000 in emergency supplies kitchen sets, tarpaulins, blankets, water equipment and folding beds is being dispatched through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism at the Nepal government's request, provided by Germany's THW technical relief agency, the German Life Saving Association (DLRG) and the state of Thuringia.

A further €200,000 is going directly to two civil society organisations: one focused on health support for disaster-affected pregnant women, new mothers and newborns, including emergency supplies and infection prevention; the other channelled through the EU's humanitarian arm (DG ECHO) to help affected families rebuild infrastructure, restore livelihoods and improve conditions in displacement camps.

Germany's development ministry has also mobilised €7.35 million, to be implemented by GIZ, focused on health, energy and water access, as well as building longer-term climate and disaster resilience.

Separately, Germany a major contributor to both the UN's Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) and the EU has helped drive $2.5 million from CERF and €2.5 million from the EU toward the disaster response.

"Our thoughts are with the victims of this disaster and their families," Germany said in a statement, adding that German civil society groups continue to support relief efforts on the ground in coordination with local partners and the Nepal government.
