The District Administration Office (DAO) in Kathmandu has authorized a Generation Z-led demonstration at Maitighar as part of a nationwide campaign opposing social media restrictions, rampant corruption, and the extravagant lifestyles of political leaders and their children.

Officials confirmed that peaceful protests are allowed in areas outside restricted zones. A group of students from Gen Z had earlier approached the DAO requesting approval to hold the demonstration in the Maitighar–New Baneshwor area.

The protest began at 9 AM on Monday at Maitighar, where participants carried placards, chanted slogans, and expressed frustration with governance and accountability. Organizers pledged to remain peaceful, protect public property, and present themselves as responsible citizens advocating for civil rights.

What began as a viral campaign on TikTok, Reddit, and Facebook has now expanded onto the streets. The movement has rapidly gained momentum, attracting solidarity from diverse groups of people. Demonstrations are being staged not only in Kathmandu but also in several other parts of the country.
