Krishna Bahadur Rai, a 70-year-old former British military personnel, has invested Rs 13.9 million to construct a new school building in Pauwadung rural municipality, located in the eastern part of Bhojpur district.

The Shitaladevi Basic School, benefiting from Rai's benevolence, received a modern 6-room building, officially handed over to the school management team on Monday. Rai, who dedicated his personal income to support education in remote villages, shared that he initially planned a building for a health post. However, upon learning that the health post already received a new structure, he redirected his aid towards the school.

"I am glad to contribute to the education sector. Although my initial plan was for a health post, the school needed urgent attention due to its outdated infrastructure," stated Rai, emphasizing his commitment to further enhance the educational environment by managing a playground for the students.

Rural municipality chair Kiran Rai expressed gratitude for Krishna Bahadur's remarkable philanthropy, describing it as a substantial contribution to the village. "We are indebted to him for this act of kindness," said Kiran Rai.

Chandra Bogati, the school principal, highlighted the significance of the new infrastructure in retaining students and ensuring quality education. The donation comes at a critical time when student numbers were dwindling due to migration, offering a ray of hope for the local community's educational prospects.
