Foreign Min says govt mulling over foreign policy revision

Minister for Foreign Affairs Mahendra Bahadur Pandey said on Saturday that the ministry is working to review the foreign policy of the country.
Minister Pandey, also the UML leader, said while addressing the party leaders and cadres here that he is mulling over reviewing the country's foreign policy and holding talks with intellectuals, foreign affairs' experts, ambassadors and officials of the foreign agencies for that end.
"Be sure, the nation's foreign policy will meet aspiration of the people," Pandey said adding that in republic, the new policy will address people's concerns.
Minister Pandey was of the opinion that earlier foreign forces took chance to play role in politics as the existing foreign policy allowed them to do so. "The new policy will not grant them any such opportunity," he assured.
On a note to the appointment at Nepal's diplomatic missions abroad, Minister Pandey assured of making appointments in a fair way giving priority to their eligibility, rather than the political affiliation. He also promised not to appoint any diplomat with an unclean political and career history in the ambassadorial post.
The Minister also assured that the Ministry will consider strengths of ambassadorial candidates and Nepal's relations with respective nations in selecting envoys at the missions.
