For the first time in history, Nepal's central bank can boast of having a lady deputy governor.

A meeting of the council of ministers held this Tuesday appointed Nilam Dhungana and Bam Bahadur Mishra as deputy governors.

The tenure of Chintamani Shivakoti and Shivaraj Shrestha, the outgoing deputy governors of NRB expired on Falgun 18. Thus, the posts were vacant for about a week, which is why the council of ministers had to sit on a meeting to appoint new office-bearers.

The governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, Mahaprasad Adhikari submitted a shortlist of four potential candidates to the council of ministers, of which the meeting appointed two to bear the posts. The council selected the aforementioned two candidates from the shortlisted submitted by the governor after a proposal from the finance minister.
