Finance Minister Mahat Optimistic as Economic Indicators Improve

In a recent event organized by the Nepal Trade Union Congress in Lalitpur, Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat conveyed positive news about the state of the country's economy. According to Minister Mahat, all key economic indicators are on an upward trajectory.

Addressing the gathering, he highlighted several positive trends, including an increase in tourist arrivals, a decrease in interest rates among banks and financial institutions, and a rise in remittance inflows. Minister Mahat emphasized the ongoing improvements, stating that the government's efforts, including more liberal monetary policies, aim to strengthen industries and businesses gradually.

During his address, the Finance Minister stressed the significant role of trade unions in creating employment opportunities for the unemployed. He urged unions to facilitate continuous dialogue between workers and entrepreneurs, fostering friendly relations.

Looking ahead, Minister Mahat announced the government's plans to organize an investment summit in May to attract foreign investments to Nepal. He acknowledged challenges, including the cost of locally produced industrial goods compared to imports and the timely increase in workers' remuneration tied to productivity.

Highlighting the importance of infrastructure development, Minister Mahat underlined its prioritization by the government. He called for the appropriate utilization of workers' knowledge and capacity, urging industrialists to embrace new technologies to enhance efficiency and reduce costs. The Finance Minister encouraged trade unions to focus on developing workers' skills and capacity to meet the demands of a changing economic landscape.
