Election Commission Urges Local Representatives to Stay Neutral Ahead of March 5 Polls
Election Commission Nepal has urged locally elected representatives to refrain from engaging in election publicity campaigns in view of the upcoming March 5 elections to the House of Representatives.
The Commission issued the appeal to ensure that the electoral environment remains free, fair, impartial, transparent, fearless, and economical, in line with the provisions of the Election Code of Conduct, 2082 BS.
The EC stressed that all stakeholders, including political parties, candidates, and public officials, are responsible for strictly complying with the code of conduct. It stated that it has been closely monitoring whether the concerned parties are adhering to the regulations during the election period.
The Commission expressed serious concern over complaints alleging that some local-level representatives had participated in promotional activities of political parties and candidates in violation of the code.
According to the existing provisions, executive office-bearers at the local level may take part in election campaigns of their respective political parties only outside the jurisdiction where they were elected. However, they are strictly prohibited from using government resources, facilities, or authority for such activities.
The EC has cautioned local representatives not to engage in any form of poll publicity that contravenes the election code, warning that such actions could undermine electoral integrity.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to ensuring disciplined conduct and maintaining public trust throughout the election process.
